Cooling System based on absorption principle

To reduce our carbon footprint ,we recently ivested in  absorption chillers at our plant in Koropi.In cooperation with the Japanese company YAZAKI and its Greek representative  Enimex ,we istalled  a new cooling system based on the absorption principle. This is connected with the heat recovery system (see relevant publication of November 2009).The heat  (a by-product of air compression ) is used to warm-up  a diluted water solution of lithium bromide.Water is the refrigerant and lithium  bromide, a non toxic salt, is the absorbent. Refrigerant ,liberated by heat from the solution ,produces a refrigerating effect in the evaporator when cooling water is circulated through the condenser and absorber. This self funded system is now used to cool the offices (600sqm) and will result to an annual decrease of CO2 emissions at the level of 165tnwhich equals with a passenger car driving 825.000km. In total ,both investments in the heat recovery system and the absorption chllers contribute  to a total saving of ca.400tn CO2,which are equivalent to 2.000.000 km of a middle class passenger car.
